Once a year, go someplace you’ve never been before

Such wise words imparted by the honorable Dalai Lama, alongside the opportunity to travel to a place not yet frequented, had guided and blessed my 2022 already so far.

There’s much that we learn from travels, about ourselves, about our abilities, our limits, our characters, our degree of independence and our fears, when removed from our usual surroundings. It unveils layers that we forgot to discover or retain, it brings us to rediscovering our self, the light in us, the love we let flow within and around ourselves.

With the pandemic on the verge of relieving, motion returns into our lives in a double-fold speed. What does this mean though: Coming back, we also aim to achieve tasks and goals at a double speed. There is a lot to adapt to, I must realize. Hence, we need to be sure of ourselves to be able to progress at the same pace.

It took climbing high up a tree in East Kalimantan and feeling the vibes of a capital city of the future in the making, Nusantara, to rattle and shift myself back into perspective. What a duty trip to meet and learn from colleagues revealed, there is so much to be done, despite the fact that so much was achieved already. Full speed, yet with sufficient grace and delicacy in progressing, minding so many aspects of the development of all parties involved. Chapeau to my colleagues, in particular forests and peatland cooperation programmes in Kalimantan, Papua, Sulawesi and formerly Sumatra and on national level for their endurance, the resilience, the fun and great work they do. I am proud to support these endeavours with the very little of knowledge and insights I can impart in the journey of achieving agreed development goals.

Another journey certainly awaits with more marvels, more stumbling upon insights, more friendships and acquaintances to build. Valuable connections that touch your heart.

Let’s roll our sleeves up to channel all passion and love we can bring into positive endeavours.
